ALG contributes to the development of Les Cayes Airport to strengthen connectivity in southern Haiti

29 Jun, 2026

The firm has supported the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in shaping a roadmap for the airport’s modernization, a key infrastructure asset for the region.

ALG, an international consulting firm specializing in transport, infrastructure, and mobility, has contributed to the development of the modernization program for Les Cayes Airport in Haiti, providing advisory support to the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) during the project’s preparation phase.

This initiative is part of a broader program aimed at improving connectivity and resilience in the southern region of Haiti, combining airport upgrades with the rehabilitation of key road infrastructure. Within this framework, ALG has brought its expertise in airport planning and operational analysis, supporting the IDB in shaping the technical and strategic approach during project preparation, helping to structure a development pathway tailored to the specific challenges of the local context.

A critical infrastructure asset in a challenging environment

Les Cayes Airport plays an important role as an access point to Haiti’s southern peninsula, particularly in a context marked by significant connectivity constraints.

The airport is essential not only for passenger mobility but also for supporting logistics and humanitarian operations. Strengthening its capabilities is therefore key to improving reliable access to the region and ensuring adequate levels of service.

A phased approach to airport development

As part of the project, ALG has worked on assessing the airport’s current situation, identifying key operational, regulatory and capacity-related constraints.

Building on this analysis, the firm has supported the definition of a phased development strategy in its role as advisor to the IDB during project preparation, aimed at enabling a gradual upgrade of the infrastructure. This approach enables the prioritization of investments, aligns implementation with local conditions, and facilitates the overall delivery of the program.

The proposed roadmap is designed to:

  • Enhance operational safety levels
  • Progress towards compliance with international standards
  • Improve airport capacity and functionality
  • Strengthen the airport’s role within the regional transport system

Experience in complex infrastructure environments

ALG’s involvement in this project reflects its experience supporting multilateral institutions in the development of infrastructure initiatives in complex environments.

The Les Cayes Airport program represents a meaningful step toward improving connectivity in southern Haiti, contributing to the strengthening of essential infrastructure for the country’s economic and social development.
