Technological solutions for urban mobility
Data management
- Data management tools used in demand assessment studies: user/passenger surveys, data analysis of capacity, processing official statistics, etc.
- SPSS, Excel, Access, etc.
GIS
- Geographic information systems offer complementary support for data management tools in studies with a heavy geographic component: public transit network analyses, mobility plans, origin-destination matrix análisis.
- As well, they complement the more commonly used transportation planning and modelling tools.
- Mapinfo, TransCAD
Network modelling
- Allow the analysis of transportation networks based on demand data (public transit systems, traffic patterns of various vehicle types in a single network, passenger flows based on origin-destination matrices) providing information on the level of service and/or congestion in any part of the network.
- Used to evaluate alternatives, both for infrastructures as well as for designing services or routes within a network.
- ALG is the official distributor of TransCAD on the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa.
Numerical simulation
- Complex transportation systems or large modal connectors require numerical simulation tools in order to evaluate and forecast flows, demand, and level of service in terms of both vehicles and users from a temporal and spatial frame of referente.
- Witness, Extend
Traffic management
- For optimal traffic operations management (pavement and roadside signage, traffic signal programming, dynamic messaging) iterative tools are used to optimize demand according to roadway characteristics.
- SYNCHRO, PC Crash
Road design
- Simulation tools are an indispensable part of proper road design and traffic operations optimization in complex environments with multiple modes of transportation (private, public, bicycles, pedestrians, etc.).
- The simulation packages permit adequate three-dimensional visualization and isolation of operational parameters that facilitate the analysis, comparison, and selection of optimal alternatives.
- Synchro, Simtraffic, Vissim
Pedestrians
- Achieving high levels and proper circulation of pedestrians / users of public transport systems is one of the keys to a well functioning transport system.
- ALG uses simulation programs to plan new stations and modal connectors, pedestrian zones, mobility plans and installations for sporting events and festivals, and evacuation plans for large infrastructures.
